and today, is a day of many things. christmas tree decorating, family day with cousins, un mes con el chico, un dia de mucho tarea, a rainy and clear day, tonight is the geminids meteor shower, and the third day of hannukah.

so yes, good omens.

(on the topic of cutting down christmas trees)

me: what if the chopping ax thing slips and i end up without a leg?
he: i'll whittle you a new one
me: hahahaha you'd whittle me a new wooden leg?
he: i could whittle several. all different colors.

today was our annual go out and trek in the santa cruz wilderness to go chop down our christmas tree. we have only once gotten our tree from a lot, i think.

anyways, we all piled into the car and at first, it was pretty much just careening down the 17 listening to Michael Buble’s christmas carols and Mr. Grinch on 94.5. very. joyous.

then we get to the christmas tree farm. its actually a very cool place, and this old couple owns it. they have a big house in the back and the whole thing on this sloping mountain where all the christmas trees are. it was misting and cold and muddy. we walked around and within 5 minutes i find a perfect tree. it takes the rest of the gang almost an hour and a half to decide and we all trek around the property, wondering if the width of the tree was big enough.

padre said, “let the tree speak to you”…

nicky made me smell each tree, too.

i brought my camera, but i don’t think any of the film will turn out because there wasn’t enough light. we’ll see. i have a lot to develop.

when we got back, nicky made us play dreidel.
